چکیده

Objectives: CSOM is significantly associated with SNHL but mixed demographical associations being reported in literature. To determine the variations (age and gender) of among patients Study design setting: Cross-sectional observational study at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi, Pakistan. Methodology: Using non-probability convenient sampling, diagnosed within six months between 10-50 years either gender were included while history previously using ototoxic drugs, ear trauma or refusing to consent excluded. SPSS v23.0 was used for analysis data chi-square applied keeping p-value <0.05 as statistically significant. Results: From total 200 patients,60 (30%) 10-18 years, 120 (60%) 19-35 35-50 20 (10%) patients. 145 (72.5%) females 55 (27.5%) males. observed 36 (18%) Between age group, 10 (16.7%) SNHL, group 22 (18.3%) 4 (20%) found have an insignificant 0.934. 28 (19.3%) males 8 (14.5%) CSOM. An p-0.434 genders. Conclusion: According results this study, insignificantly according demographics gender). Further studies are required validate findings study. [Analysis of sensorineural hearing loss in chronic suppurative otitis media].

OBJECTIVE To explore the association between chronic suppurative otitis media and sensorineural hearing loss. METHOD The files of 147 patients with unilateral chronic suppurative media were reviewed in a retrospective study. Differences between diseased and control ear bone conduction thresholds were analysed by the paired student's t-test over the four frequencies (0.5 kHz, 1.0 kHz, 2.0 kHz,...

Frequency of Sensorineural hearing loss in chronic suppurative otitis media.

Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is defined as chronic otorrhea (i.e., lasting > 6-12 weeks) through a perforated tympanic membrane. It is generally associated with some degree of conductive hearing loss. However, recurrent ear infections due to perforated eardrum result in absorption of toxins and macromolecules into the cochlea leading to sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). We planned t...

To Study the Level of Awareness About Complications of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) in CSOM Patients.

INTRODUCTION Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is one of the most common diseases in clinical practice. It affects large number of people. Disease causes disability and mortality because of its ability to cause complications. Patients develop complications because of lack of awareness about the disease, scarce availability of qualified otologists at peripheral areas and economical constra...

Observation of hearing loss in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media tubotympanic type.

BACKGROUND It is acknowledged that size and site of tympanic membrane perforation is proportional to degree of hearing loss but there are many studies which suggests otherwise. Persistent ear discharge is also supposed to deteriorate hearing level with passage of time. This study is carried out to find out the relation between size and site of tympanic membrane perforation and duration of ear d...

Sensorineural hearing loss in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media: Is there a significant correlation?

Even though there are other complications of chronic suppurative otitis media, the aspect of hearing loss is often studied. Nevertheless, the occurrence of sensorineural hearing loss in patients with this disease is still controversial. This study aim (1) to assess the association between sensorineural hearing loss and chronic suppurative otitis media, (2) to investigate some clinical factors t...
